An ‘exploded view’ is directly defined as a drawing or photograph of a complex, often mechanical object to show its individual components and how these various parts assemble. The interpretation for the purpose of this exhibition is to illustrate how a wide range of artworks are made from
the collage process, using multiple components and materials manipulated and assembled together by the artist’s hand to produce a vast range of ceramic and textile works, jewellery, sculptures and works on paper.

By grouping these works together, viewers
will be introduced to eleven Australian artists working with found or disparate materials, images and objects in more experimental ways, blowing up any pre-conceived notions of collage being limited to a physical two-dimensional image comprised of cut and glued paper, but rather
a layered process that can be pushed and played with to produce unexpected and rigorous work
