Emily Besser

Besser is an artist living and working in Redfern, Sydney. She graduated from Sydney College of the Arts in 2001 where she majored in Painting.

Besser works in multiple mediums including wax, clay, coloured pencils, paper and paint: watercolour, gouache, oil and acrylic. She works in modes that involve walking, collecting, mud-larking, collage, drawing, stop-animation, painting and sculpting. 

Besser's cyclical way of working in different mediums and modes is a personal and generative process. Besser welcomes her mistakes and uncertainty in art-making as the pathway for her decision-making, she often bounds the work process with self-made rules and also allows for work to be made at different speeds and rhythms.
